9,998 bidders for Malaysia WWW 1 license plate and the winner was Ibrahim Ismail of Johor with $165,068 (520,000 Malaysian ringgits) winning bid.
Why this crazy auction? Because in Malaysia you cannot buy personalized plate for your car, you must wait until the number of cars registered reached that sequence and this can take months or even years.
The bidding for the WWW 1 plate and other car plates with the prefix WWW, which stands for World Wide Web, started in April 30 and ended on May 14.

But the world’s most expensive license plates was Abu Dhabi “1″. Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri was willing to pay $14.3 million for it at an auction at the 7-star Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi (Feb. 16, 2008).
The closing price more than doubled the prior world record of $6.8 million, set by Khouri's cousin a year earlier.
