The World’s Largest Ferris Wheel will be in New York soon

The New York will get soon a new attraction alongside the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building: World’s largest Ferris wheel. This giant Ferris wheel will be located on the northeastern side of Staten Island (St. George) and it will be the tallest observation wheel in the world and the only one in New York City. The 630-foot, or roughly 60-story, New York Ferris Wheel will be ready on New Years Eve 12/31/15 and it is expected to begin construction in early 2014.

      Luxury hotels? for who?
I think New York need more cheap hotels for Ferris Wheel fans… they need a big hotel discounts to have more money to spin more in the Ferris Wheel… just crazy!

4.5 million visitors per year… 4.5 million more people in New York… we will need more parking spaces.

    • Rachel Leroy on the October 1, 2012 remarked #

New York needs more parking spots now :)

    • Rachel Leroy on the October 1, 2012 remarked #

yes, maybe it looks like the London Eye but the New York one is bigger :)

      • Johan Krüger Haglert on the October 1, 2012 remarked #

But the London one was only supported on one side.

        • Rachel Leroy on the October 1, 2012 remarked #

This is also true! There are some differences between London one and New York one beside sizes.
Anyway, I like more New York, at least in the rendered images. I cannot wait to see the real one when it will be ready!

Once again, they miss the point.

It’s only worth having one of these wheels if it overlooks something interesting nearby.

In London you have Big Ben, Parliament, the Thames, and the centre of the city in general.

This will have Staten Island. And a whole lot of water.

    Location, Location, Location.

    • Rachel Leroy on the October 2, 2012 remarked #

New York City attracts 47 million foreign and American tourists each year and London attracts 30 million international visitors per year. So, New York has a good location, too :)

        Have you been to Staten?

        • Rachel Leroy on the October 7, 2012 remarked #

Only to visit Historic Richmond Town and Staten Island Zoo…
I must admit this place wasn’t impressed me too much…

38 minute ride? After all that food & drink at coney island? Will each car have a toilet? Or will the cars smell like the subway?

    • David on the October 3, 2012 remarked #

London Eye ride is 30 minutes. so no big difference. maybe they use the same speed but as the New York is biggest the ride time is 38 minutes.

I feel bad for the Toys ‘R Us Ferris Wheel in Times Square. No one will want to ride the Cabbage Patch car any more… :(
